Scottish Police Rugby Champions Gender Equality with HeForShe Logo at Four Nations Tournament

In a remarkable display of commitment to gender equality, Scottish Police Rugby men's national team recently took to the pitch proudly displaying the HeForShe banner during the Four Nations Police Rugby Tournament. Looking to tackle misogyny and gender inequality in policing and sport, the section hosted a double fixture event which has seen the Women’s first ever match as the main event.

Scottish Police Rugby players are selected from officers and staff members of Police Scotland under the auspices of the Scottish Police Recreation Association.  On Wednesday 22nd November 2023, players and supporters from around Scotland travelled to the historic City of Stirling to proudly join as one team.  The men of Scottish Police Rugby are intent on supporting their female colleagues to promote women and girls’ participation in rugby.  The games were attended by hundreds of people with support from various aspects of Police Scotland and Scottish Rugby, with the Police Scotland pipe band providing entertainment and playing national anthems. 

As proud partners of UN Women’s HeForShe initiative, Scottish Police Rugby showed their commitment to gender equality, advocating for the eradication of violence against women. The decision to feature the HeForShe logo on their jerseys underscores their dedication to promoting inclusivity and equality both on and off the rugby field.

The Rugby team sought insights from UK Policing’s HeForShe project manager, Brooke Jarvis, who provided key inputs on actionable steps that can be taken within the sports community to actively contribute to the fight for gender equality.

Believing in the transformative power of sports, Scottish Police Rugby aims to leverage its teams and players as catalysts for change, working collectively to reshape attitudes, challenge societal norms, and foster behaviors that contribute to the creation of a more equitable society.

The unmistakable HeForShe logo is prominently displayed on the back of the Scottish Police Rugby men's national team jerseys, serving as a visual testament to their commitment to championing gender equality.
